Yovon Chemical Plant

The Yovon Chemical Plant, located in the Yovon district, is one of Tajikistan's primary industrial hubs for the production of fertilizers and basic chemical compounds. The facility was established during the Soviet era in the 1960s to supply regional agriculture with essential chemicals such as carbamide and ammonia. Following a period of decline after the collapse of the USSR, the plant was partially reactivated under the name 'Tojikazot' (later part of the Tajik Chemical Company) with the help of foreign investment. The factory utilizes local raw materials, including natural gas and salt deposits, to manufacture products for both the domestic market and export. Its strategic importance lies in supporting national food security by providing fertilizers for cotton and wheat cultivation. Recent modernization efforts focus on transitioning production to coal gasification technologies to ensure a more reliable supply chain.
