Takhti Sangin („Stone Throne”) is an archaeological site near Kurgan-Tyube, Tajikistan. It lies at the confluence of the Vakhsh and Panj rivers and was part of the Greco-Bactrian kingdom. The site housed a large temple dedicated to the god Oxus and a citadel. Excavations yielded numerous artifacts: coins, ceramics, and stone reliefs. Hellenistic influences are evident in the architecture. The site was founded in the 3rd century BC and used until the 5th century AD. It is considered one of the most important sites in Central Asia for understanding Hellenism. The acropolis offered a wide view of the surrounding plain. Takhti Sangin testifies to cultural exchange between East and West. Artifacts are displayed in the National Museum of Tajikistan. The site has been open to the public since 2004.
