Savica Waterfall (Slovenia)

Weather…

The Savica Waterfall is one of Slovenia's most iconic and photogenic natural landmarks, located at the far end of the Bohinj Valley. It emerges from a subterranean cave within a vertical limestone cliff of Mount Komarča and descends in two distinct strands into an emerald-green plunge pool. The larger falls drop from a height of 78 meters, while the smaller ones fall 25 meters, giving the waterfall its characteristic A-shape. The water originates from the Valley of the Triglav Lakes and travels through a complex underground karst system before resurfacing here. Historically and culturally, the waterfall is deeply significant to Slovenes, as it serves as the central setting for France Prešeren's epic poem "The Baptism on the Savica." It is also considered the official source of the Sava Bohinjka river.
