Logatec is located in central Slovenia, positioned along the historical transit corridor between the mainland and the Adriatic coast. The settlement's origins date back to the Roman era, when it served as a station named Mansio Longatico on the Via Gemina. During the medieval and early modern periods, Logatec was a crucial hub for the transport of mercury from the Idrija mines to the port of Trieste. Devastating fires in 1873 and 1874 destroyed much of the original timber architecture, leading to a significant redesign of the urban layout. Today, Logatec is characterized by its extensive green avenues, most notably the Napoleonic linden tree alley planted during the French administration in the early 19th century. The town currently thrives as an industrial and logistics center due to its proximity to the A1 motorway.
