The classic approach to this iconic limestone peak usually starts from the village of Terchová or the Štefanová settlement, weaving through dramatic gorge trails before the steep summit push.
Best season
Summer and early autumn are by far the safest times for an ascent. The peak is typically subjected to seasonal closures from spring to early summer to protect nesting wildlife and fragile flora.
Terrain & paths
Expect highly demanding, technical terrain; the upper sections feature steep limestone crags often secured with chains and ladders, requiring a head for heights and surefootedness.
What to bring
Proper mountain boots with stiff soles are non-negotiable for the rocky scrambles. Gloves are extremely helpful for gripping the metal chains, and a windbreaker is essential for the exposed summit.
Parking
Paid visitor parking is generally available in the lower tourist hubs like Terchová-Biely Potok or Štefanová, which act as the main logistical bases for all major hikes into this mountainous area.
Safety
This is a serious mountain challenge. The chain sections become extremely hazardous in rain or ice. Anyone afraid of heights or lacking proper fitness should avoid the final summit push entirely.
