Pribylina

Pribylina is best known for the Museum of the Liptov Village (Múzeum liptovskej dediny), located on the outskirts of the village. This open-air museum was established to save valuable architectural monuments from villages that were flooded during the construction of the Liptovská Mara reservoir. It is unique in Slovakia as it showcases not only the wooden houses of common peasants but also the stone buildings of the lower nobility. The highlights of the museum are the Gothic manor house from Parížovce and the wooden St. Cosmas and Damian Church from Liptovská Mara. The museum also showcases the breeding of Hucul horses, and visitors can often witness demonstrations of ancient crafts. The village's location right beneath the peaks of the High and Western Tatras provides a spectacular backdrop for photographers. The village is situated on the road between Liptovský Hrádok and Podbanské. The best time to visit is from May to October, when numerous cultural events and craft days take place at the open-air museum. The surrounding area gives many opportunities for light hiking. Don't forget to try the local dairy products, typical of the Liptov region.
