Podolínec is a historic town in northern Slovakia, located in the Prešov Region. The settlement originated in the 13th century and received town rights in 1292. During the Middle Ages, Podolínec was an important trading center on the route between Poland and Hungary. The town retains a well-preserved medieval core with Gothic and Renaissance buildings. The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built in the 14th century, dominates the main square. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Podolínec flourished through crafts and trade, especially linen weaving. The town was part of the historical region of Spiš (Zips) and has a rich multicultural history with Slovak, German, Hungarian, and Jewish communities. Today, Podolínec has about 3,000 inhabitants and is a quiet place with historic charm. The town walls are partially preserved, and the 16th-century town hall testifies to civic self-governance.
