Brillant is a predominantly mixed residential and commercial district on the eastern coast of Mahé, lying immediately north of the international airport. The name derives from the strong, almost "brilliant" light reflection off the white sand stretches near the coast. Historically Brillant was a focal point of early Seychellois industry: here stood coconut oil presses, salted fish processing plants, and later food factories. Today the district hosts several food and beverage operations, including a brewery and water bottling plants, alongside small to mid-sized residential homes. Despite the industrial presence, Brillant has preserved its Creole village character; along the main road one finds small restaurants and bakeries. Just offshore lies a shallow beach stretch that, owing to the proximity of the runway, is less used by tourists. Worth noting is the Avenue de l'Indépendance running through the district, lined with flowering frangipani trees. Brillant is regarded as an important link between the capital and the eastern hinterland.
