Val d'Endore lies in the Baie Lazare district in the southwestern part of Mahé and is one of the most fertile valleys on the island. The name traces back to an early plantation owner named Endor, who maintained extensive vanilla and cinnamon cultivations here. To this day, small-scale agriculture defines the valley: tropical fruits such as mango, sapodilla, avocado, and starfruit are grown for the local market. The soil is particularly nutrient-rich thanks to mineral-laden weathering layers, and a small stream descending from the Mont Brulé massif provides constant irrigation. In the valley are several private farms and a state experimental garden run by the Seychelles Agricultural Agency, where climate-resilient cultivars are tested. Hikes through Val d'Endore pass old dry stone walls, remnants of French plantations, and lush vegetation. Owing to its secluded location, the valley is also an important habitat for rare endemic insect species and small lizards, as well as several typical bird species.
