Amidža Konak, Kragujevac (Serbia)

Weather…

The Amidža Konak in Kragujevac is one of the most significant monuments of Ottoman-Balkan architecture in Serbia, constructed between 1818 and 1822. It was built to house the staff and associates of Prince Miloš Obrenović, specifically for Sima Milosavljević Paštrmac, the court administrator known as Amidža. This building is the sole surviving structure of the former palace complex established by Prince Miloš during the era when Kragujevac served as the first capital of modern Serbia. Its design features traditional elements such as timber framing, protruding oriels, and a distinct white facade, characteristic of early 19th-century regional styles. Today, the konak is an integral part of the National Museum of Kragujevac, featuring permanent exhibitions on the city's history and ethnography. It is officially protected as a cultural monument of exceptional importance for the Republic of Serbia.
