Rilima

Rilima is an emerging town in the Bugesera District of Rwanda's Eastern Province, currently undergoing a period of rapid transformation. Geographically, Rilima is situated in a flat, lake-rich landscape between Lake Cyohoha and Lake Gashora, providing the region with a unique lakeside microclimate. In recent years, the town has gained international prominence due to the construction of the new Bugesera International Airport nearby, which is set to turn Rilima into a major logistical hub for the country. Historically, the Bugesera region struggled with periodic droughts, but modern irrigation schemes have stabilized local agriculture, particularly vegetable and rice farming.
