Suzdal Kremlin (Russia)

Weather…

The Suzdal Kremlin is the historical core of the easy on the eye town of Suzdal and an outstanding example of Golden Ring architecture. Built at a bend in the Kamenka River, the history of this once mighty fortress dates back to the 10th century, when it served as the religious and administrative center of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality. Unlike many other Russian citadels, the Suzdal Kremlin no longer has massive stone walls; instead, it is surrounded by impressively well-preserved medieval earthen ramparts. At the center of the area rises the magnificent white limestone Cathedral of the Nativity, famous for its striking blue domes adorned with gold stars and its rare 13th-century gilded fresco doors, known as the 'Golden Gates'. Right next to it, the historic Bishop's Chambers with their interconnected halls bear witness to the former splendor of the church leaders who managed this sanctuary.
