Rostov Kremlin (Russia)

Weather…

The Kremlin in Rostov Veliky is one of the most scenic and well-preserved historic ensembles in all of Russia. Unlike most Russian kremlins, it was built in the late 17th century not as a military fortress, but as a grand, representative residence for Metropolitan Jonah Sysoyevich. Situated right on the shores of the deep blue Lake Nero, the complex captivates visitors with its snow-white walls, numerous ornate towers, and the silvery domes of its churches. A major highlight is the famous belfry of the Assumption Cathedral, which houses 15 massive and uniquely sounding bells, the largest of which weighs a staggering 32 tons. Thanks to its fairytale architecture, the Rostov Kremlin served as a filming location for many classic Soviet movies, most notably the beloved comedy 'Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession'. Today, the grounds house a museum displaying the region's rich art and history.
