Lake Turgoyak in the Chelyabinsk Oblast is considered one of the cleanest and most transparent lakes in Russia. Positioned in the mountain landscape of the Southern Urals, it has visitors an almost untouched natural setting. The water is so clear that you can often see up to 15 meters deep. An absolute highlight is Vera Island, where prehistoric megaliths and ritual sites were discovered, attracting archaeologists and esotericists alike. The region is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. In summer, the sandy beaches invite swimming and sailing, while the surrounding forests are handy for hiking and mountain biking. Many sanatoriums and resorts line the shore, offering relaxation in the fresh mountain air. The flora and fauna are diverse, with rare plant species typical of the Ural Mountains. The nearest major city is Miass, from where the lake is easily accessible by taxi or bus. The best time to travel is July and August for water activities or late September for the golden autumn colors of the taiga. Those seeking silence should choose the off-season, when mist hangs mystically over the glassy water.
