Tyumen, idyllically situated on the banks of the Tura River, occupies a special place in the country's history as the oldest Russian city in Siberia. Founded in 1586 on the site of a former Tatar settlement, the city long served as a strategic outpost and trading center on the caravan route to Asia. However, Tyumen experienced its true economic awakening in the second half of the 20th century with the discovery of gigantic oil and gas deposits in Western Siberia. Today, the city is considered the undisputed „oil and gas capital“ of Russia, a title that has brought it enormous wealth, rapid architectural development, and an excellent quality of life for its residents, which is evident in modern boulevards, top-tier universities, and well-kept parks.
