Ufa, the fascinating capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, is spectacularly situated on a hilly peninsula at the confluence of the Belaya and Ufa rivers. Founded in 1574 as a fortress to secure the eastern borders, the city has developed into one of the most important industrial, religious, and cultural centers of the Ural region. Ufa is characterized by its remarkable religious tolerance and multicultural nature, where Orthodox churches and majestic mosques, such as the impressive Lala Tulpan Mosque, harmoniously dominate the cityscape. Known as one of the greenest cities of over a million people in Russia and a major site for oil refining and the chemical industry, Ufa features the monumental equestrian statue of the Bashkir national hero Salavat Yulaev as its striking landmark.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
