💡 Tips

  • Plan your visit for the morning when the local craft workshops and markets are most active.
  • Bring plenty of cash in the local currency (Guaraní), as many small textile vendors and workshops do not accept cards.
  • Learning a few basic greetings in Guaraní will go a long way in breaking the ice with the local artisans.
  • Ask the craftsmen if you can watch them work; many are happy to demonstrate their traditional weaving techniques.

It was founded in 1725 by Franciscan friars and developed into one of the most important centres of Paraguayan handicrafts. Carapeguá is nationally famous for the production of Poyví and Ao Po'í, fine cotton fabrics and embroidered shirts decorated with traditional patterns that are considered symbols of Paraguayan culture.
