Al Hazm Castle (Oman)

Weather…

Al Hazm Castle is one of the most magnificent and architecturally advanced castles in Oman, located in the Rustaq region. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century by Imam Sultan bin Saif II, who is also buried within its grounds. The castle differs from other Omani forts by the total absence of wooden beams in its ceilings; instead, all structural weight is supported by massive stone arches. Its defensive features include thick walls, two formidable cannon towers, and a sophisticated system of secret escape tunnels. A special highlight is the intricately carved wooden doors imported from India, testifying to Oman's maritime trade power at the time. Inside, an integrated Falaj irrigation system provided the castle with a continuous supply of fresh water. Today, visitors can explore the renovated rooms furnished with historical weapons, carpets, and daily artifacts. The complex is regarded as an outstanding example of the Ya'rubi dynasty's elegance, blending defensive fortification with palatial residential comfort.
