Busova Peak (North Macedonia)

Weather…

Busova Peak is located in the Nidže mountain range along the southern border of North Macedonia with Greece. Rising to an elevation of approximately 1,811 meters, it is part of an ancient geological massif primarily composed of metamorphic rocks like gneiss and mica schist. Historically, Busova gained international prominence during World War I as a strategic point on the Macedonian Front. Intense fighting between Bulgarian and Entente forces left behind a legacy of trenches and fortifications that remain partially visible on the landscape today. The flora of the peak features expansive grasslands used for livestock grazing during the summer, while the lower slopes are covered in pine and oak forests. The local fauna includes the golden eagle and various reptiles adapted to the drier climate of the southern Balkan region. Hikers value Busova for its historical significance and the panoramic views it provides, reaching as far as Kaimaktsalan, the highest peak of the Nidže range.
