Jablanica Peak (North Macedonia)

Weather…

The Jablanica mountain range extends along the western border of North Macedonia with Albania, forming part of the Shar-Korab system. The highest peak on the Macedonian side is Crn Kamen, reaching an elevation of 2,257 meters. Geologically, the range is characterized by limestone rocks and spectacular glacial landforms, including cirques and glacial lakes. The region is known for its abundant water resources and numerous springs that supply the surrounding valleys. The flora includes rare alpine plants and dense beech forests, while the fauna provides a habitat for lynxes and wolves. Historically, Jablanica was an important corridor for shepherds and trade routes between Lake Ohrid and central Albania. Today, the mountains are valued for hiking, ski touring, and nature observation, with their remote location ensuring an almost untouched wilderness. On clear days, the view from Crn Kamen extends across Lake Ohrid to the Albanian Alps.
