The Drie Berg Top is located in the Speulder- and Sprielderbos near Ermelo, one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands. Geologically, the peak is part of the Veluwe moraine ridge and is characterized by its steep slopes and prominent geomorphological depressions such as the Solse Gat. The Solse Gat is a huge hollow created by melting glacial ice in the subsoil and is now surrounded by numerous myths and legends about a sunken monastery. The flora of the area is dominated by ancient beeches and oaks, whose often bizarre shapes earned the forest the name 'forest of dancing trees'. Historically, the elevation was an important landmark for travelers on the Veluwe.
