Kasteel de Haar is the largest and most luxurious castle in the Netherlands, located near the city of Utrecht. Its current fairytale appearance is the result of a massive reconstruction project undertaken between 1892 and 1912 by Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt. The renowned architect Pierre Cuypers, who also designed the Rijksmuseum, rebuilt the castle on the ruins of a medieval stronghold in the Neo-Gothic style. The interiors are exceptionally opulent, blending historical craftsmanship with early 20th-century modern conveniences. The castle is set within 55 hectares of English-style parkland, which required the planting of over 7,000 mature trees to achieve its instant landscape effect. For decades, it served as a glamorous retreat for the international jet set, hosting guests like Coco Chanel, Maria Callas, and Roger Moore.
