Leerdam is a characterful city located on the banks of the river Linge, internationally renowned as the center of Dutch glass art. Since the 18th century, the glass industry has been deeply rooted in local culture, earning Leerdam the nickname 'Glass City'. Visitors can admire the delicate craftsmanship at the National Glass Museum and the glassblowing workshops that have made the city world-famous. In addition to glass, Leerdam is the namesake of the well-known Leerdammer cheese, which, although developed in the region, is now produced in larger factories. The city was granted city rights as early as 1407 and features a well-preserved historic center with impressive city walls and the prominent Grote Kerk. Its idyllic location in the Alblasserwaard region also makes Leerdam a popular destination for cyclists and boaters wishing to enjoy the photogenic river landscape of the Linge.
