Since the 18th century, the glass industry has been deeply rooted in local culture, earning Leerdam the nickname 'Glass City'. Visitors can admire the delicate craftsmanship at the National Glass Museum and the glassblowing workshops that have made the city world-famous. In addition to glass, Leerdam is the namesake of the well-known Leerdammer cheese, which, although developed in the region, is now produced in larger factories.
