Driebergen-Rijsenburg is a town in the province of Utrecht, situated on the edge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. The current dual town was formed in 1931 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Driebergen and Rijsenburg. Driebergen was first mentioned in historical documents in the 12th century, while Rijsenburg was established in 1810 as a planned Catholic village designed around a central church square. The architecture of Rijsenburg is unique in the Netherlands, with its buildings arranged in a horseshoe shape around the St. Petrus' Banden Church. During the 19th century, the area became a favored residential location for wealthy citizens from Utrecht and Amsterdam, resulting in the construction of numerous estates and country houses such as Sparrendaal. Today, the town is recognized for its forested surroundings and its role as a significant regional service center. The opening of the railway station in 1844 spurred steady population growth and economic development.
