Weather…

Vianen is a welcoming fortified town in the province of Utrecht, situated on the southern bank of the river Lek. The town was granted city rights in 1336 and flourished under the rule of the powerful Lords of Brederode. A unique historical feature was its status as a 'Free City' (Vrijstad), providing asylum to fugitives and debtors as long as they remained within the city walls. The monumental Lekpoort, the only remaining 15th-century city gate, still welcomes visitors today. The historic center is characterized by its clear medieval grid layout. Along Voorstraat, visitors can find numerous monumental houses and the magnificent town hall. The Grote Kerk, built in the 15th century, houses the tomb of Reinoud III van Brederode. The Stedelijk Museum Vianen provides fascinating insights into the era when Vianen functioned as a sovereign territory. Its location right on the river makes Vianen an attractive spot for water enthusiasts and hikers exploring the dike paths. The historic harbor is still active, showcasing classic vessels. Given its proximity to the A2 and A27 motorways, Vianen serves as an excellent base for exploring the Utrecht region. In summer, the town's terraces come alive with a friendly and social atmosphere.
