Doorn Hill (Netherlands)

Weather…

Doorn Hill is a prominent feature of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, a glacial ridge in the central Netherlands formed during the Saale glaciation approximately 150,000 years ago. Rising to an elevation of nearly 50 meters above sea level, it consists of sand and gravel deposits pushed upward by advancing ice sheets. The area is historically significant due to its proximity to Huis Doorn, the manor house where the exiled German Emperor Wilhelm II lived from 1920 until his death in 1941. The vegetation is characterized by extensive forests of oak, beech, and pine, much of which was planted in the 19th century to stabilize the sandy soil. Today, the hill serves as a vital recreational area and a natural water catchment zone for the province of Utrecht. The landscape is dotted with historical estates that reflect the region's popularity among the Dutch aristocracy in previous centuries.

Terrain & paths
The routes often lead over soft, partly sandy forest paths featuring a light to moderate incline. The terrain is typically hilly for this region, yet perfectly manageable for most walkers.
