Kopan Monastery (Nepal)

Weather…

Kopan Monastery, a center of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, is situated on a hill north of Bodnath, on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Founded in 1969 by Lamas Thubten Yeshe and Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, it has grown into one of the most famous Buddhist teaching centers for Westerners. It belongs to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT). The monastery is home to hundreds of monks, nuns, and lay practitioners. It is particularly famous for its annual one-month meditation courses that introduce the teachings of Buddhism, which have been offered since the 1970s. The serene environment of the monastery, its beautifully landscaped gardens, and the impressive gompa (meditation hall) offer an oasis of peace and contemplation away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
