Narayanhiti Palace Museum (Nepal)

Weather…

The Narayanhiti Palace in the center of Kathmandu was the main residence of the Nepalese monarchy for over a century. The current palace was built in 1963 by King Mahendra, replacing an older palace that was damaged in an earthquake in 1934. The architecture is a blend of modern Nepalese pagoda and Western styles. The palace was the scene of many significant historical events, including the tragic royal massacre of 2001, in which Crown Prince Dipendra killed ten members of his family, including the king and queen, before taking his own life. After the abolition of the monarchy in 2008, the palace was converted into a public museum. Visitors can now walk through the opulent halls, banquet rooms, and private apartments of the former kings, gaining insight into the luxurious lifestyle of the Shah dynasty. The crown jewels of Nepal are also on display here.
