Tokha is a historical Newar municipality on the northern edge of the Kathmandu Valley. The town is deeply rooted in traditional Newar culture and is known for its ancient temples, narrow alleyways, and agricultural past. Tokha was historically famous for the production of 'chaku', a traditional molasses-based sweet, consumed especially during the Maghe Sankranti festival. Although urbanization is progressing here as well, Tokha retains many of its old traditions and festivals. Key religious sites include the Chandeshwori Temple and the Sapantirtha pond, where an annual bathing festival takes place. The agricultural lands around Tokha are known for producing radishes and other vegetables that supply the markets of Kathmandu.
