Boudhanath Stupa (Nepal)

Weather…

Boudhanath Stupa, located in the heart of Kathmandu, is one of the largest stupas in the world and a central sanctuary of Tibetan Buddhism. Built in the 14th century after the destruction of a previous stupa, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The massive mandala structure symbolizes the Buddhist cosmos. The white dome represents the earth, while the cubical harika above symbolizes the four elements. The 13 steps of the spire represent the stages to enlightenment. Surrounded by a bustling square filled with monasteries, shops, and restaurants, the stupa is a lively center of worship. Thousands of pilgrims, including many exiled Tibetans, circumambulate the stupa daily in a clockwise direction, spinning the prayer wheels embedded in the base. The air is filled with the sound of mantras and the smell of juniper incense, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
