Gosaikunda
Gosaikunda is situated at an altitude of over 4,300 meters, surrounded by majestic peaks. The lake is believed to be the creation of Lord Shiva and attracts thousands of pilgrims annually, especially during the Janai Purnima festival in August. The trek to the lake leads through diverse terrain, from pine forests to barren high-altitude landscapes. Simple teahouses along the route often serve yak cheese and warm porridge, which are beneficial in the thin air. The region hosts a total of 108 lakes, with Gosaikunda being the most prominent. Access typically begins in Dhunche or Syabrubesi after a bus ride from Kathmandu. The best time for trekkers is spring and autumn when the lakes are not completely frozen.
