Souss-Massa National Park (Morocco)

Weather…

The Souss-Massa National Park was established in 1991 and covers an area of approximately 33,800 hectares along the Atlantic coast south of Agadir. The park encompasses a diverse landscape consisting of coastal steppes, shifting sand dunes, wetlands at the mouths of the Oued Souss and Oued Massa rivers, and rocky cliffs. Internationally, Souss-Massa is primarily renowned as one of the last sanctuaries for the critically endangered Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita), which nests in the coastal cliffs. In addition to this rare ibis species, the park is home to reintroduced antelope species such as the Addax, Scimitar-horned Oryx, and various gazelles, which live in specialized conservation zones. The wetlands also serve as a crucial stopover point for migratory birds like flamingos and spoonbills on their journey between Europe and Africa. The protection of these fragile ecosystems is vital for preserving biodiversity in the Souss-Massa region.
