Kumbor Port (Montenegro)

Weather…

Kumbor Port possesses a storied history as one of the most significant military installations on the eastern Adriatic coast. During the Austro-Hungarian era, its strategic location at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor was utilized as a naval fleet base and a pioneer station for seaplanes. In the socialist Yugoslavia period, Kumbor evolved into a highly modern naval complex, serving as a critical base for submarine fleets and maritime helicopter units. For decades, the military infrastructure dictated the socio-economic pulse of the surrounding coastal communities. Following Montenegro's independence, the site underwent a radical transformation through total demilitarization. The former barracks and naval docks were entirely dismantled to provide space for the multi-billion euro Porto Novi luxury development. Today, the once austere military landscape has been replaced by high-end villas and a state-of-the-art commercial marina. Nevertheless, Kumbor remains historically vital as the location that secured military control over the inner bay's access for more than a century.
