Clock Tower of Perast (Montenegro)

Weather…

The Clock Tower of Perast is the most prominent landmark in the town, belonging to the Church of Saint Nicholas located in the center. Standing 55 meters tall, it is the highest church tower in the entire Bay of Kotor and was completed in 1691. The design was created by the famous Venetian architect Ivan Skarpa, who blended Baroque elements with local stonemasonry techniques. The tower was constructed using light-colored limestone from the island of Korčula, giving it a characteristic elegance. For centuries, it served not only as a religious symbol but also as a strategic lookout point for defense against approaching naval threats. Inside the tower are two large bells cast in Venice during the 18th century. The tower's clock is one of the oldest in the region and remains functional today, setting the acoustic rhythm of life in Perast. Climbing the tower provides a panoramic view of the Our Lady of the Rocks and Saint George islands.
