The Tipova Landscape Reserve is located in the Rezina District on the banks of the Dniester River, covering about 306 hectares. It is primarily famous for its rock monastery, which is one of the largest and oldest of its kind in Southeastern Europe. The monastic complex consists of three sections carved into the soft limestone cliffs between the 11th and 15th centuries. The reserve impresses with its deep ravines and waterfalls formed by the Tipova River on its way to the Dniester. Legend has it that the Moldovan Prince Stephen the Great married Maria Voichița here and that the mythological poet Orpheus found his final resting place in these lands. The ecological diversity includes numerous endangered plant species characteristic of steppe and forest-steppe zones.

Best season
Tipova Reserve is best visited in spring (April-June), when rare plant species bloom. Autumn (September-October) gives clear views of the gorges and colorful deciduous forests.
Best time of day
Early morning the air is clear and birds sing along the gorge. Late afternoon you may spot roe deer and wild boar at forest edges.
Etiquette
For safety, always stay on trails - the cliffs are not secured. Collecting plants is strictly forbidden as many species are protected.
What to bring
A high-magnification binocular (10x50) is useful for observing birdlife on high cliffs. Hiking poles can help on uneven trails.
Getting there
Tipova Reserve is accessible by car on a gravel road branching off the main road. A small parking lot is at the start of the trail leading down into the gorge.
What to expect
Wildlife in the gorge is shy - move slowly and quietly to avoid scaring it. A fixed seat with a good view increases your chances of seeing something.
