Saharna Monastery (Moldova)

Weather…

Saharna Monastery, officially dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is one of the most significant religious centers and pilgrimage sites in the Republic of Moldova. The complex is situated in a photogenic canyon on the right bank of the Dniester River and consists of a rock-cut monastery as well as an 18th-century surface church. The history of the religious site dates back to the 13th century, when monastic communities began carving cells into the limestone cliffs. A special highlight is the legend of the Virgin Mary's footprint, which is said to be visible on one of the rocks and attracts thousands of believers annually. In addition to its spiritual importance, Saharna is known for its natural beauty, including 22 waterfalls, the largest of which is the Gropul waterfall at about 10 meters high. The serene atmosphere and the combination of historical architecture and wild nature make it a unique place for contemplation.
