The Saharna Landscape Reserve covers 670 hectares in the Rezina District on the right bank of the Dniester River. It is renowned for its spectacular canyon carved by the Saharna River into the limestone plateau. Within the canyon, there are 22 waterfalls, the most famous being 'Gipsy Hole' with a height of 10 meters. The reserve is home to the 18th-century Saharna Monastery, one of Moldova's most significant Orthodox pilgrimage sites. Archaeological excavations have also uncovered a Geto-Dacian fortress and rock monasteries dating back to the 13th century. The flora includes rare rock-dwelling plants, while the fauna is characterized by birds of prey nesting in the steep cliffs. The combination of natural wonders and historical heritage makes Saharna a unique destination.

Best season
Saharna Landscape Reserve is most beautiful in spring (April-June), when waterfalls are strongest after snowmelt. Autumn (September-October) features colorful foliage and good views of the limestone cliffs.
Best time of day
Early morning is well-suited for photographing waterfalls in soft light and birdwatching. Late afternoon the rocks are often basking with lizards and snakes warming up.
Etiquette
Stay on designated trails - rocks are slippery and cliffs dangerous. Climbing on waterfalls is forbidden to protect sensitive mosses and ferns.
What to bring
Waterproof clothing and a rain cover for the camera are useful due to waterfall spray. A tripod helps with long exposures of the flowing waterfalls.
Getting there
The reserve is accessible by car via the road from Saharna. A large parking lot is right at the entrance, from which a well-maintained path leads to the main waterfalls.
What to expect
During peak summer season the waterfalls can get very crowded. Come early morning or on weekdays to avoid crowds and enjoy the tranquility.
