Chisinau Triumphal Arch (Moldova)

Weather…

The Triumphal Arch in Chisinau, also known as the Holy Gates, is one of the most prominent architectural symbols of the Moldovan capital. It was built between 1840 and 1841 according to the plans of architect Luca Zaușchevici to celebrate the Russian Empire's victory over the Ottoman Empire in the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. The structure has a square base and reaches a height of 13 meters, following the Late Classicist style. The arch was specifically constructed to house a massive bell weighing over 6.4 tons, cast from captured Ottoman cannons. It is located on the central axis of the Great National Assembly Square, directly opposite the Government House and in line with the Cathedral of Christ's Nativity. Today, the Triumphal Arch serves as a popular meeting point and a central monument for national celebrations and historical commemorations.
