Songho is a unique Dogon village primarily known for its profound cultural and spiritual significance. The main attraction is the sacred rock overhang just outside the village, covered in hundreds of colorful rock paintings. These paintings in red, white, and black serve as educational tools during youth initiation rites. The artwork depicts various symbols, animals, and mythological beings central to Dogon beliefs. This site is the location of the sacred circumcision ceremony, which takes place every few years and is a major event for the community. The village itself features traditional mud architecture and has a glimpse into authentic local life. The local cuisine consists mainly of millet dishes, peanuts, and locally grown vegetables. Songho is relatively accessible compared to the cliffside villages, as it is located on the plateau near main access routes. The best time to visit is from October to February, when the colors of the rock art are most vivid and the weather is pleasant.
