- Respect the dress code: as this is an inhabited island, keep your shoulders and knees covered when walking through the village.
- Head to the harbor in the late afternoon to watch the fishing dhows return with their fresh daily catch.
- Plan ahead for Fridays: most shops and cafes close during the morning prayer times.
- Enjoy the paved streets: Mahibadhoo is an administrative center with better-than-average road infrastructure for walking.
- Watch the sunset from the harbor wall; you can often spot stingrays in the shallow water near the lights.

The island has around 2700 residents and is known as a dynamic administrative and educational center. It hosts the atoll hospital, several schools, a police station and the atoll courthouse. Mahibadhoo is considered the gateway to the world famous dive sites of South Ari Atoll, including Maamigili, where whale sharks can be spotted year round.
