Raudonė Castle (Lithuania)

Weather…

Raudonė Castle is picturesquely perched on the steep banks of the Nemunas River, standing as a welcoming example of Renaissance architecture in Lithuania. Originally built in the 16th century on the ruins of an old Teutonic fortress, the red-brick residence served as a home and representative center for noble families. Its distinctive silhouette is dominated by a 33-meter-high circular observation tower, which once provided defense and control over the river valley. Over the centuries, the castle underwent multiple reconstructions, incorporating Neo-Gothic elements. Severely damaged during the Second World War, the carefully restored building currently houses a local public school, while the tower has visitors wide-open panoramic views of the river and lush surrounding landscape.
