Halshany Castle Ruins
The Halshany Castle ruins are a fascinating and deeply mysterious historical monument, heavily steeped in Belarusian legends and literary folklore. The original fortress was constructed in the first half of the 17th century by the powerful Sapieha noble family, and at its peak, it was one of the most luxurious and technologically advanced palace complexes in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Designed in the late Mannerist style, the quadrangular structure featured imposing corner towers, opulent ballrooms, and a highly sophisticated underfloor heating system. Over the centuries, devastated by numerous conflicts including the Great Northern War, the once-magnificent castle gradually fell into deep ruin. Today, the weathered red brick walls are famous for their hauntingly romantic atmosphere and ghost stories, particularly the legend of the 'White Lady'. Recently, one of the corner towers was authentically restored to house a museum.
