Kazlų Rūda is a small but industrially significant city in southwestern Lithuania, literally located within the endless forests of the Suvalkija region. The history of the city, which began in the 18th century, is deeply rooted in the rich nature of its surroundings, particularly the timber and the iron ore (‚Rūda’) that was once mined here. However, the real surge in growth occurred in the 19th century with its connection to the international railway network. Today, Kazlų Rūda is primarily known as the undisputed center of the Lithuanian wood processing industry, serving, among other things, as a major site for IKEA Industry. The vast pine forests surrounding the city also make it a paradise for mushroom foragers and nature lovers.
