Sigulda is one of the most easy on the eye towns in Latvia, situated approximately 50 kilometers northeast of Riga within the Gauja National Park. The town was first documented in 1207 when the Order of the Sword Brothers commenced the construction of a stone castle at the site. Often referred to as „Latvian Switzerland,” Sigulda is renowned for its scenic landscape featuring deep river valleys, sandstone caves, and forested hills. Key landmarks include the ruins of the medieval castle, the Sigulda New Castle, and the nearby Gutman's Cave, which is the largest cave in the Baltic states. The town has developed into a significant center for winter sports, hosting one of the world's few bobsleigh tracks that are open to the general public. Every year, the region attracts thousands of visitors, particularly during the „golden autumn” when the foliage in the Gauja Valley turns bustling colors. Sigulda also serves as a primary hub for hiking and active recreation in Latvia.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
