Gahar Lake
Gahar Lake is situated within the Oshtorankuh protected area at an elevation of about 2,350 meters, making it one of Iran's most beautiful alpine lakes. It consists of two parts, Upper and Lower Gahar, both known for their crystal-clear turquoise waters. Since the lake is not accessible by car, visitors must undertake a multi-hour hike from the town of Dorud, which keeps the area pristine and first-rate for trekking enthusiasts. Motorized boats are strictly prohibited to preserve the tranquility and the local ecosystem. The surrounding mountains are home to diverse wildlife, and camping under the stars is a popular activity for visitors. The best time to go is from June to August when the snow has melted and the alpine flowers are in bloom. Hikers should be well-prepared with sturdy gear and plenty of water.
