Palangan
Palangan is an impressive terraced village in the heart of Iranian Kurdistan, tucked away in a deep valley of the Zagros Mountains. Its most striking feature is its 'stepped' architecture, where the stone houses are built into the steep slope such that the roof of one house serves as the courtyard or walkway for the one directly above it. A rushing river bisects the village at the bottom of the gorge, adding to its photogenic charm. Visitors flock to Palangan to experience authentic Kurdish hospitality and witness a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. The village is famous for its trout farms, and enjoying fresh grilled fish by the riverside is a highlight of any trip. The locals often wear traditional Kurdish clothing, contributing to the timeless atmosphere of the place. Hiking trails around the village lead to ancient ruins and hidden springs. The best time to visit is during the spring months (April and May) when the surrounding mountains are lush and green. It is accessible via a scenic drive from Kamyaran, offering an unforgettable escape into nature and tradition.
