Ahvaz Oil Field

The Ahvaz Oil Field, located in the Khuzestan province of southwestern Iran, is one of the world's largest onshore oil fields. Discovered in 1953, it is operated by the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). The field spans approximately 67 kilometers in length and 6 kilometers in width, stretching directly beneath the city of Ahvaz and its surroundings. It consists of three primary reservoirs: Asmari, Bangestan, and Khami, with the Asmari formation being the most significant production source. Ahvaz is the heart of Iran's petroleum industry, contributing massively to the country's daily crude oil output. Its infrastructure includes hundreds of active wells, degassing stations, and an extensive pipeline network that transports oil to refineries and export terminals on the Persian Gulf. Economically, the field's importance is immense, as it has been a primary source of revenue for the Iranian national budget for decades. Due to the field's maturity, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques are increasingly employed to maintain stable production rates.
