Tát is a fast-growing town in Komárom-Esztergom County, situated on the right bank of the Danube River, adjacent to the historic city of Esztergom. Archaeological evidence points to habitation since the Bronze Age, but the town's official records began in 1146. It gained significant historical fame for the Battle of Tát on August 16, 1685, where the combined Christian forces under Charles of Lorraine achieved a major victory against the Ottoman Turks, a key turning point in the liberation of Hungary. Throughout the 20th century, Tát evolved from a traditional rural community into a modern industrial and suburban center, fueled by the industrial growth of nearby Esztergom and Dorog. The town is widely recognized in the region for its bustling cultural scene, particularly its prestigious music school and local choir traditions. Its location at the foothills of the Gerecse Mountains and alongside the Danube provides a wealth of outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, and water sports. Tát successfully balances its industrial foundations with a high quality of life, preserving its Swabian German cultural roots while serving as a key transportation and residential hub in the northern Transdanubian region.
