Smurfit Kappa Štúrovo (Slovakia)

Weather…

The Smurfit Kappa plant in the southernmost Slovak town of Štúrovo is an essential pillar of the regional economy and one of the largest producers of environmentally friendly packaging materials in Central Europe. Originally established during the socialist era as a gigantic pulp and paper combine (Juhoslovenské celulózky a papierne), the facility underwent a fundamental transformation following its acquisition by the international Smurfit Kappa Group. Today, the highly modernized plant is entirely specialized in the sustainable production of containerboard (specifically fluting), utilizing almost exclusively recycled waste paper as its raw material. Its strategically first-rate location directly on the banks of the Danube at the Hungarian border not only ensures an excellent water supply for the production process but also enables highly efficient logistics via river, rail, and road to supply customers in the food, agricultural, and consumer goods industries both domestically and abroad.
