Rastoke (Croatia)

Weather…

Rastoke is a historic village located at the confluence of the Slunjčica and Korana rivers in central Croatia. It is famous for its exceptionally well-preserved watermills and the numerous waterfalls created as the Slunjčica flows over travertine barriers into the lower Korana riverbed. This unique geological setting resulted in a scenic ensemble of traditional wooden houses built directly above the cascading waters. The village is often called 'Small Plitvice' due to its striking scenic resemblance to the famous Plitvice Lakes. For centuries, the mills of Rastoke played a vital role in the regional economy by grinding grain and processing wool. Today, the entire village is a protected cultural monument and serves as a prime example of the symbiotic relationship between nature and historic folk architecture in the Kordun region.
